Receive the Magic You Create
We all start off the holiday season with the intention of enjoying ourselves, creating a festive atmosphere and basking in the glow of appreciation from our beautiful families. Then, "reality" hits and we spend so much of our time and energy creating magical holidays for everyone else that we often become resentful, melancholy or even worse, ill, by the time the big day arrives.
This low energy literally constructs a blockade around you making in near impossible to partake in the joy of the season. But what it you could persuade reality to be a little more forgiving? You can! Following these simple steps will encourage you to remember your intention so that experiencing the magic you create becomes your reality.
Tantalize your senses to invoke the spirit of the holidays.
Smell- Something a s simple as boiling orange peels and cloves on the stove top is enough to cause you to stop you in your tracks. Take a deep inhale and remember to give yourself some grace and space during this busy time of year while enjoying the sweet fragrance of your concoction.
Sound- Play music. This doesn't have to be Christmas music. Just play any music that makes you happy. Music is scientifically proven to increase production of dopamine, serotonin and endorphins. This will keep your spirits high and your eye on the prize - a magical holiday.
Sight-Lights, lights and more lights! With the shorter days comes those long, dark winter nights.
Those short days can turn our mood dark too. Add a floor or table lamp, string mini lights around the doorways, wrap larger indoor plants in lights or let fairy lights dance across the mantle. The options are endless and everyone knows it's hard to be grumpy when admiring Christmas lights.
Taste- Enjoy the flavors of the season in good measure and without guilt. It's cold and dark out.
Now is the perfect time to sample a few traditional winter holiday recipes. These foods are often hearty and warming. Yet another way to boost your mood! Foods such as eggnog, gingerbread, bourbon balls or beef wellington will do your soul some good. (In moderation, of course!)
Touch-Let's face it, it's a mad, mad world out there. Why not give yourself a soft landing when you come home. Drape a couple of soft, fluffy blankets over the couch or chair back. Then, treat yourself to getting cozy under the blanket and practice enriching your senses with the suggestions above. Really look around your room and take delight in the lights, take a deep breathe in deep and smell the refreshing scent of oranges and cloves, listen to your favorite song as you wrap yourself in the fluff of your blanket and finally, ALLOW yourself to ENJOY the moment.
Congratulations! You are receiving the magic you created!
